Orlando Sanford International Airport

Orlando Sanford International Airport has expanded dramatically since its conversion from a naval facility to civilian airport in 1969 and has proven very popular with travelers, consistently ranking in the top 30 busiest airports.

Over the years, Rep. Mica has been very supportive of improvements at the Orlando Sanford International Airport. The Congressman helped secure federal assistance to upgrade airport runways, landing systems and emergency response equipment to prepare the facility for future aviation demand. Additionally, Mica has worked with Orlando Sanford Airport officials to privatize TSA screening operations, intended to increase efficiency and improve the customer experience.

These and other enhancements at the airport have improved one of our key economic generators in Central Florida and continue to increase flight safety and develop the airport’s infrastructure.  Most recently, FDOT conducted an economic impact study which found that the airport generates 18,025 jobs regionally and a total economic activity of $2,530,024,000.
